A configuration control workbook for Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management projects. The Configuration Register lists each setup area with its menu path, shared or legal-entity scope, design decision, dependencies, owner, load method and data entity, and tracks status from design through conference room pilot, validation, golden configuration and production. Supporting sheets capture sites and warehouses, item model, dimension and coverage groups, and key parameter decisions with rationale and approval. The summary shows configuration progress and open decisions, helping solution architects keep environments consistent and avoid surprises at cutover.
What's inside
- Configuration Register: Every setup area in scope: path, scope, decision, owner, method and status through to production.
- Sites and Warehouses: Physical and logical inventory structure per legal entity.
- Item Setup Groups: Item model, item, dimension, coverage and reservation groups with their key settings.
- Parameter Decisions: Key parameter settings that change system behavior. Record the value chosen and why.
- Summary: key numbers calculated automatically from your data
- Drop-down lists, worked example rows and formulas you can rely on
How to use it
- Fill the Configuration Register at the start of design with every setup area in scope, ordered by dependency: organization and units, products and dimensions, sites and warehouses, then process setup.
- Record the design decision in plain language and link to the design document. Keep one owner per setup area.
- Choose a load method. Prefer data packages or DMF for repeatable setup so each new environment matches; name the data entity used.
- Detail physical structure on Sites and Warehouses and product setup on Item Setup Groups before configuring warehouse processes.
- Log parameter settings that change system behavior on Parameter Decisions with rationale and approver, especially those that are hard to change after go-live.
- Move status forward only after a business user validates the setup in a conference room pilot or test cycle.
- Maintain a single golden configuration environment and use this workbook as the record of what it contains before you move setup to production.
