A complete data migration control workbook for Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management. Start with an inventory of every data object, its target data entity, owner, selection rule, dependencies and load sequence. Map each target field to its source with transformation rules, defaults and value-map sets, and let the gap flag catch mandatory fields with no source. Log every mock load with extracted, loaded and failed counts, reconciliation status and duration, so you can size the cutover window. The summary gives data leads and program managers a clear readiness view before the dress rehearsal and the production load.

What's inside

  • Migration Objects: Inventory of every data object to migrate: scope, owner, target entity, sequence and readiness.
  • Field Mapping: Source-to-target mapping per field. One row per target field; include defaults and transformation rules.
  • Value Mapping: Cross-reference tables used by 'Value map' rules. One row per source value.
  • Mock Load Results: Log every load run per object and cycle. Reconcile counts and values before sign-off.
  • Summary: key numbers calculated automatically from your data
  • Drop-down lists, worked example rows and formulas you can rely on

How to use it

  1. List every data object on Migration Objects, including configuration, master data, open transactions and opening balances. Agree what will not be migrated and record it as 'Not migrated'.
  2. For each object, name the target data entity as it appears in the Data management workspace and write a clear selection rule, for example 'active customers with activity in the last 24 months'.
  3. Set load sequence and dependencies so parents load before children: legal entity setup and reference data, then parties and masters, then open transactions and balances.
  4. Map fields on Field Mapping. Generate the entity's mapping or template from Data management to get the exact field names, and check the Gap flag for mandatory fields without a source or default.
  5. Keep code translations on Value Mapping and have the business data owner approve each set.
  6. Log every mock run on Mock Load Results, reconcile record counts and key totals with the business, and record the top error for each run.
  7. Use the Summary sheet in data migration stand-ups. Treat 'At risk' objects and open variances as go-live risks on your RAID log.
