A working requirements traceability matrix for Dynamics 365 and other ERP programs. Each requirement is tagged to an end-to-end process from the Microsoft business process catalog, classified by fit or gap, and linked to its design document, build work item and test cases. Built-in formulas flag requirements with missing design or test links and items that have gone stale. A change log captures every change to approved scope, and the summary sheet gives you fit rate, trace coverage, test status and UAT sign-off counts for steering committee reporting. Use it from discovery through go-live.

What's inside

  • Requirements Traceability: One row per requirement. Trace each one from source to design, build, test and sign-off.
  • Change Log: Record every change to an approved requirement. Link back to the Req ID.
  • Summary: key numbers calculated automatically from your data
  • Drop-down lists, worked example rows and formulas you can rely on

How to use it

  1. Agree an ID convention before the first workshop, for example REQ-<process code>-<number>, and never reuse a retired ID.
  2. Capture each requirement as one testable statement of business need. Split compound requirements into separate rows.
  3. Tag each row to an end-to-end process (L1) and business process (L3) so the matrix lines up with your process catalog.
  4. Classify fit or gap during fit-gap sessions and record the solution approach in one or two plain sentences.
  5. Add the design document reference, build work item and test case IDs as they are created. The Trace check column shows what is still missing.
  6. Log every change to an approved requirement on the Change Log sheet and record the decision and who made it.
  7. Review the Summary sheet weekly. Before UAT exit, every Must requirement should show Trace check = Complete and UAT sign-off = Signed off.
