UAT Test Script and Defect Log

Step-level UAT scripts linked to requirements, a defect log with severity, priority and ageing, and an exit-criteria summary ready for go/no-go reporting.

Free

Free Excel workbook. Step-level UAT scripts linked to requirements, a defect log with severity, priority and ageing, and an exit-criteria summary ready for go/no-go reporting. Download it, add your project details and use it today: no sign-up for software, no paywall.

Run user acceptance testing for an ERP or Dynamics 365 rollout from one workbook. The Test Scripts sheet holds step-level actions, test data, expected and actual results, the security role used and evidence links, all traced to a requirement ID. The Defect Log tracks severity, priority, root-cause category, owner and target dates, and calculates ageing and overdue flags automatically. The Summary sheet shows execution progress, pass rate, open defects by severity and steps that failed without a logged defect, so test managers can report exit-criteria status to the go/no-go meeting with confidence.

What's inside

  • Test Scripts: One row per test step. Repeat the Test case ID on every step of the same case.
  • Defect Log: One row per defect. Severity is business impact; priority is fix order.
  • Summary: key numbers calculated automatically from your data
  • Drop-down lists, worked example rows and formulas you can rely on

How to use it

  1. Agree UAT entry and exit criteria with the business before writing scripts, for example zero open Severity 1 defects and a pass rate of at least 95% of executed steps.
  2. Write scripts per business process, one row per step, and link each test case to the Req ID in your traceability matrix.
  3. Run each script with the real security role the user will hold in production, not a system administrator account.
  4. Record the actual result and evidence for every step. When a step fails or is blocked, raise a defect and enter its ID; the Defect check column flags any you missed.
  5. Triage defects daily: set severity by business impact, priority by fix order, and assign an owner and target date.
  6. Retest every defect marked Ready for retest and close it only when the original step passes.
  7. Use the Summary sheet for daily stand-ups and as evidence for the UAT exit and go/no-go decision.
